He served as deputy secretary of state under President Obama.
Antony Blinken was confirmed 78-22 by the U.S. Senate on Tuesday to serve as the nation’s Secretary of State.
Blinken has been confirmed by the Senate before, most recently when he was in the Deputy Secretary of State during the Obama administration.
During his confirmation hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Blinken pledged to work more closely with allies and would work to revitalize damaged American diplomacy and build a united front to counter the challenges posed by Russia, China, and Iran.
During those hearings, he pledged a bipartisan approach to foreign policy. He called China the “most significant challenge of any nation-state to the United States” and said he may re-enter the Iran nuclear deal but it had to be by a stronger, better agreement.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For wisdom for incoming Secretary of State Antony Blinken as he works on foreign policy.
- For U.S. diplomats whose travel is impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.
- For God’s purposes to be accomplished through the president’s administration.
